I chose the story of Noah and the ark because it shows a promise from God that is true up till today! I also chose it because I love animals.

Open Heaven

Artist: Joshua Tyler Wong
Dimensions: 44.0 x 44.0 x 2.0 cm
Finishing : Glow-in-the-dark Box
Medium: Mixed Media

This artwork allows people to experience Jesus and the angels in a more tangible way. I chose a gold-coloured board and for Jesus to glow (in the dark), as “Jesus’ house is gold and His face shines”.

Jesus is Crucified

Artist: Bertrand Wen Hao Mondry
Dimensions: 51.1 x 41.0 x 3.7 cm
Finishing : Framed
Medium: Poster Paint

Jesus is depicted dying on the Cross for our sins. In my opinion, it was dark when Jesus was crucified. The darkness signifies their cruelty towards Him as they did not know that He was the Son of God.

This artwork is about how God’s promise of freedom extends from events in Exodus to the New Testament. In Exodus, he freed His people from slavery; four thousand years later, He freed them from sin through Jesus. Through this, we can be encouraged to put our hope in God who is always faithful.

After the flood, Noah and his family gave thanks to the Lord with offerings as the Lord has saved them. God smelled the fragrance and was happy! He promised then to not destroy the earth with a flood again; He will see the rainbow and remember the covenant He made with us.

Free from Satan

Artist: Jodi Seah
Dimensions: 72.4 x 55.3 x 3.7 cm
Finishing : Framed
Medium: Mixed Media

To me, Satan, sin and temptation is a scary thing. However, Rev. 20:1-2 ignites hope in me as God promises that Satan will be locked up for 1,000 years. There would be peace for the people on earth. This gives me hope of what is to come. Glory to God in the highest!

Child of God

Artist: Elizabeth Foo Xing
Dimensions: 52.7 x 43.3 x 3.7 cm
Finishing : Framed
Medium: Pencil & Marker Pen

I drew a picture of a child’s happy face from receiving the promise of the verse; yet at the same time, with sadness in his eyes from living in a foreign land. To show how the hope endures through circumstances, I wrote the verse repeatedly in the background, on a discarded piece of cardboard (which homeless people often use for sleeping).

The Hope You Give

Artist: Bryan Defjan
Dimensions: 63.0 x 56.5 x 3.7 cm
Finishing : Framed
Medium: Graphite & Charcoal on Paper

The act of holding someone’s hand represents our support for one another. In the Bible, God ‘held’ the hands of Moses, Daniel, and Noah in times of trial. In my life, I am grateful to God, my family and friends for holding my hand to get through difficult trials. Together, we are stronger.

God’s Promise and Man’s Hope

Artist: Jason Tan Yok Heng
Dimensions: 59.7 x 84.4 x 2.2 cm
Finishing : Canvas Board
Medium: Poster Colour

In the Old Testament, God describes the Promised Land as “a land flowing with milk and honey” (Exod. 3:8; Num. 14:8; Deut. 31:20; Ezk. 20:15), which is a beautiful graphical way of highlighting the agricultural richness of the land. God brought His people out of slavery in Egypt to a prosperous land of freedom, blessing and the knowledge of the Lord.

The woman with the issue of blood was desperate. Jesus was her only hope. In this painting, the woman in red is me as I have cancer. This bible story inspires me to place my hope in Jesus on my cancer journey. Our hope is built on God’s promises.

This is my Beloved Son

Artist: Lim Nyuk Shan
Dimensions: 61 x 45.8 x 3.6 cm
Finishing : Canvas Board
Medium: Acrylic

When Jesus ascended from the water, the heavens were opened unto Him—lo and behold, a voice from heaven declared that Jesus was the promised Saviour and the Spirit of God descended as a dove, alighting on Christ. "For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life." (John 3:16)

Bruised Reed and Smoldering Wick

Artist: Ruth Ngoh-Lim
Dimensions: 59.5 x 84.1 x 1.2 cm
Finishing : Canvas Board
Medium: Acrylic

Inspired by Isa. 42:3 and Matt. 12:16-21, which illustrate the Hope and Promise given by God to people who look for Him and ask for help, I looked for reeds in the Singapore Botanic Gardens and found them by the lake. The reeds were next to dry land, which led to the idea of combining the wick and reeds for this artwork.
