Moses striked the stone in front of israelites and the living water poured out of the stone. Jesus is the stone in our life and via his blood, his people were relieved of the thirst that afflicted them in the wilderness. The israelites in the painting were adorned in different colors representing the diversity of people that Jesus gave his life for. The cloud in front and the fire behind in the skies indicated no matter what the difficulties the israelites went through in the wilderness, God always watched over them.
